In Cypriot schools the number of pupils with Greek as a Second Language (GSL) is constantly increasing. The lack of a valid and reliable test to assess language proficiency in Greek poses serious difficulties in identifying GSL students´ learning needs and offering them Greek language instruction appropriate to their proficiency level. This paper aims to discuss a validation study of the language tests “Milas Ellinika I”. A total of 382 primary school pupils aged 7-11 participated in this study, which collected data on the four dimensions of Weir’s (2005) validation framework namely scoring, criterion-related, context and consequential validity, along with the inclusion of content validity. Results support the use of both tests in the Cypriot context, after some minor adaptation revisions.
