Abstract

The museum environment is a valuable learning resource. Each museum, as a formal institution of culture but also as an informal form of education, has, thanks to Museum Pedagogy, the know-how, techniques and means that can combine entertainment with learning. This paper studies the views of primary school teachers on the role that museums play in connecting the school with the local community and opening up to it. In particular, the involvement of the museum as a shaping factor of an interactive school-local society relationship is examined. From the analysis of the research data it appears that the teachers recognize the value of connecting the school with the local community and the benefits of developing partnerships between them. In addition, they believe that the museum education programs and museum education activities that are implemented during the school year can be a powerful tool in the extroversion of the school, since, for their implementation, the cooperation of the teachers with the representatives of the museums is required.
