Abstract

Greek society has evolved into a "cultural mosaic", bringing about changes in the correlation of social dynamic and social coexistence. The exclusion of social groups with different cultural background from their access to goods and resources of modern society is still present, as a result their integration in society and education is hindered. Lifting the exclusions is a challenge for the modern educational policy of European countries, and of course for Greece. This article examines strategies for the effective inclusion of students with a heterogeneous cultural background into the educational system. The immediate goal is reducing school dropout and failure and the longterm goal is decreasing school and social exclusion. In this context, the study aims to outline the current educational situation of Roma children in the area of Aspropyrgos and mainly to highlight the factors that enhance school attendance in this area.
