Abstract

As many of the achievements and the acquisitions of the union movement are being challenged, one might wonder whether this is due to the impact of liberalization policies and the world economy or to internal factors of the labour unions. The present research aims, through an anonymous questionnaire to 409 primary school teachers a. to investigate any relationships between the commitment and perceived usefulness of teachers about their local labour unions b. to identify the reasons that affect teachers’ active participation to the union movement and c. to make suggestions to the local unions’ leaders in order to better convince their members about the value of union participation and set out a new vision for it.
