Abstract

This article deals with the issue of risk management in Primary School Units of the Municipality Unit of Gazi. Its aim is to investigate the risks, to verify whether the necessary security measures are being met under the current legislative framework and the confirmation that the educational personnel is informed, trained and fully prepared for security issues. It also aims to find out if the necessary activities for school safety have been done and finally to highlight the need for future actions. To achieve the above objectives, it was created a three-module questionnaire, which was based on bibliographic sources. For the completion of this questionnaire 103 Primary School teachers participated. Statistical analysis shows that, the teachers have highlighted not only the existence of many risk factors in all school units, but also the lack of training for them in school safety issues and accident prevention, while they were only aware of the  impending earthquake exercise of readiness, concerning the activities for the school safety. In conclusion, the overwhelming majority of teachers believe that changes are necessary to be imposed in safety issues, as well as their training by specialized seminars. They also suggest that more funds should be available  to ensure the necessary safety measures within the school units.
