Αναπνέοντας υποβρυχίως: ήχος, τεχνολογία και σώμα στην αυτόνομη κατάδυση

Το ερώτημα στο οποίο επιχειρεί να απαντήσει το παρόν άρθρο είναι ο τρόπος με τον οποίο συναρθρώνεται τεχνολογία και σώμα στην περίπτωση της αυτόνομης κατάδυσης αναψυχής, δίνοντας έμφαση στην υποβρύχια αναπνοή. Με ποιο τρόπο η τεχνολογικές εφαρμογές μεταλλάσσουν την εμπειρία της αναπνοής, εντός ενός συγκεκριμένου ιστορικού και κοινωνικού περιβάλλοντος, μετατρέποντας μια «φυσική» λειτουργία σε μέρος ενός ηχοτοπίου, μορφοποιώντας ιδιάζουσες ενσώματες εμπειρίες ως τεχνοεμπειρίες; Στην αυτόνομη κατάδυση η αναπνοή διαμεσολαβείται από τον ρυθμιστή πίεσης, ο οποίος παρέχει στον αυτοδύτη αέρα υπό πίεση ίση με αυτή του περιβάλλοντος, έτσι ώστε να εξισορροπηθούν οι αυξημένες και διαρκώς μεταβαλλόμενες και εξαρτώμενες από το βάθος πιέσεις που ασκούνται στο σώμα. Η πίεση δεν είναι αισθητή στην αναπνοή. Αισθητή είναι ωστόσο η ροή του παρεχόμενου, μέσω του ρυθμιστή πίεσης, αέρα. Η αναπνοή γίνεται επίσης αισθητή και αντιληπτή και μέσω της ακοής, αποτελώντας έτσι αναπόσπαστο μέρος του υποβρύχιου ηχοτοπίου των αυτοδυτών. Η πολυαισθητηριακή ενσώματη εμπειρία της εμβύθισης επικουρείται στην περίπτωσή μας από την ακουστική διάσταση της αναπνοής, αποτέλεσμα αφενός τεχνολογικών και αφετέρου ιστορικοκοινωνικών διεργασιών που θεσμοποιούν την αυτόνομη κατάδυση ως χόμπυ του ελεύθερου χρόνου, τα τελευταία χρόνια ως τουριστική πρακτική. Η ακουστική της αναπνοής ενισχύει την αίσθηση του ταξιδιού σε έναν «ανοίκειο κόσμο», στη μεθόριο αφενός του φυσικού και του κοινωνικού- πολιτισμικού και αφετέρου του τεχνολογικού και του βιολογικού, συνδράμοντας σε μια εμπειρία μετάβασης, λειτουργώντας ταυτόχρονα ως εμπορευματοποιημένη πρακτική εαυτού στην καπιταλιστική ύστερη νεωτερικότητα.
