Turkey’s 'Road Map’ to the European Union. Implications for Greek-Turkish Relations and the Cyprus Issue

The article begins with a historical overview of the evolution of turbulent relations between the EU and Turkey, from the Ankara Agreement of Association (1963) up to the Helsinki summit of the European Council. The authors focus on how post-Cold War Greek-Turkish relations have evolved by tracing developments and events, especially the Cyprus question. Particular emphasis is paid to two key areas of Turkey’s relations with the EU, namely the Accession Partnership and Turkey’s National Program for the Adoption of the Acquis (NPAA). The article concludes with an assessment of the impact of the EU-Turkey relationship on Greek-Turkish relations and the Cyprus issue.
