Abstract

This specific survey aimed at investigating the training needs of the management team (principals/sub-principals) of secondary schools. The survey was conducted in 2017, using an electronic questionnaire, completed by 83 people. The examination of the training needs was based on three axes, the time spent on the performance of their competences, the identification of the difficulties they face and the preferences of the training sectors. In addition, for these axes, a link was made with the variables of the school area, the gender, the administrative experience of the participants and the type of schools. It was forecasted that the participants spend most of their time in the field of counseling support the students, the biggest difficulties they face in the field of introducing educational changes and innovations, while the sector that has become the most important for training is that of improving school effectiveness. Differences also emerged in terms of gender, administrative experience, area and type of school. The need for differentiated training based on the needs of the principals was highlighted, and the introduction of the mentor institution at the school management level was proposed.
