Abstract

This paper focuses on the relationship between Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and Science Education (SE). The aim of the paper is twofold: on the one hand it aims to discuss the need for developing a comprehensive and coherent framework that allows the integration of aspects of RRI in SE – which is attempted through a synthetic literature review on the relationship between RRI and SE. On the other hand this paper presents the framework of the ENGAGE project and discusses its potential as a comprehensive and coherent approach for embedding aspects of RRI in SE – with an emphasis on the framework’s added value at the levels of curriculum development and educational practice.
