Abstract

In this paper we present the findings of a research that was carried out in a sample of primary school educators during the school year 2015-16. e research was carried out through questionnaires, focusing on the notion of translanguaging in education and the implementation of educational practices that promote the successful language and culture contact within the Greek classroom. Our findings show that Greek educators may be ready for creative and daring educational procedure which will involve not only the translation of words in the languages of their students but also the use of various practices promoting the parallel and creative synthesis of all students’ languages. Such practices may include the use of identity texts, songs, role play, etc. Moreover, our data shows that there is a need for further training and information sharing on the issues of language and culture contact at school, a need that becomes all the more urgent within the overall current socio-political context in Greece and internationally.
