Το «παιχνίδι» στο έργο του Norbert Elias

Η συμβολή του Norbert Elias στις κοινωνικές επιστήμες και συγκεκριμένα στην έρευνα στο υποπεδίο του αθλητισμού είναι σήμερα πολλαπλώς αναγνωρισμένη και τεκμηριωμένη. Στο έργο του, το οποίο διαχρονικά παρουσίαζε μια αξιοσημείωτη εννοιολογική σταθερότητα, η έννοια του παιχνιδιού εμφανίζεται με ποικίλες σημασίες και λειτουργεί ως μεταφορά σε διαφορετικά συμφραζόμενα.
Στο παρόν κείμενο θα παρουσιαστούν οι μετατοπίσεις της έννοιας του παιχνιδιού από το πρώιμο στο ύστερο έργο του γερμανόφωνου στοχαστή. Εκκινώντας από τη θέση του παιχνιδιού στη γενική θεωρία του εκπολιτισμού και τα γραπτά του αναφορικά με τη συγκρότηση των σύγχρονων αθλημάτων θα προσπαθήσουμε να συνδέσουμε τις πλέον διαδεδομένες αναγνώσεις του έργου του με τη γενική θεωρία των σχηματισμών όπως αυτή περιγράφεται στο βιβλίο του What is Sociology.
Με τον τρόπο αυτό ελπίζουμε να αναδείξουμε από την μια τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η ενασχόληση του Elias με τον αθλητισμό εγγράφεται στο συνολικό του θεωρητικό εγχείρημα και από την άλλη τη σύνδεση του έργου του με άλλες κομβικές έννοιες της κοινωνιολογικής παράδοσης μέσα από τις οποίες δομεί το εννοιολογικό του οπλοστάσιο, όπως η εξουσία και η γνώση, κρίσιμες στη μελέτη του σύγχρονου αθλητικού φαινομένου, αλλά και κεντρικές στην μελέτη των μεταβολών των φαινομένων της μαζικής κουλτούρας και του ελεύθερου χρόνου.
