Abstract

The 1940s witnessed the emergence of the Greek Right and its institutional representations. This article analyzes both through the press, the forum where sensibilitieswere formed and ideologies were structured. It starts by tracing the appearance in the 1930s of Rightist sensibilities which morally undermined the traditional cleavage of the national schism and foreshadowed the Left-Right ideological division. The rhetoric of the extreme Right is analyzed at four points in its evolution: the counter-revolutionary movement of 1915-1916, the impact of the extreme Right-wing ideas on the society of the thirties; the Metaxas dictatorship and the populist extreme Right of the Civil War.
