Abstract

This article draws the picture of the Greek immigrant in Quebec by focusing on the media, so much of the hellenophone as the francophone and Anglophone. First, the author presents some preliminary notions on the receiving country and the Greek immigration. Secondly, he presents the community’s hellenophone media with their problems, difficulties and their influences. Then, he analyzes the role and the influences of Greek newspapers/magazines that arrive daily from Greece, and finally, in the last part of the article, the author considers the impact of francophone and Anglophone media on the Greek community of Quebec.

The author presents empirical evidence pertaining to the importance of the hellenophone media in preserving the ethno-cultural identity of the Greeks in Quebec, noting that the degree of real=ding or listening to the francophone and Anglophone media constitutes an index of the integration of Greeks into the receiving country.
