The Umbilical Relationship: Greece and the United States
Abstract
In this article, the author examines the post-WWII and especially the post 1974 Greco-American relations. The author underlines that the one constant, dominant and characteristic factor that stands out in the relations between the two states is security. The security factor will remain more important for Greece rather than the USA as long as Turkey threatens the balance of forces in the Eastern Mediterranean.
However, the author underlines that Greece and the United States are entering a new phase in their relations which is characterized by a new maturity by both parties.
