The Études helléniques/Hellenic Studies journal, was first published in the Spring of 1983 in Montreal, Canada, with the ambition to function as a forum for scientists dealing with the Greek Diaspora and Hellenism in general. With a brief interruption in the period 1985-1994, it continued to be published by the Centre for Hellenic Studies and Research  Canada until 2004.

In 2005 a new phase in the history of the journal was launched. To the actual editor Stephanos Constantinides, director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies and  Research  Canada-KEEK were added two co-editors: Michalis Damanakis, Director of the “Laboratory of Intercultural and Migration Studies” (EDIAMME) of the University of Crete, and Panagiotis Tsakonas from the Graduate Program “Cultural, Economic and International Relations in the Mediterranean” of the University of the Aegean.

The responsibility for the publication and circulation of the Journal was transferred to the Laboratory of Intercultural and Migration Studies” (EDIAMME) and was published by Gutenberg Publications (2005-2015).

In 2015 the journal's publication was suspended until new ways for its continuation found in a new environment were found. At the same time, the entire content of the Journal was digitized and made available, free of charge, to any interested parties.
