Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the new law on the selection of school heads, namely, L.4327/2015, through the experiential narratives of ten school heads who participated in the process and eventually were appointed to the position of school head. The topic was selected following the enactment of the above-mentioned Law. Over time, the institutional framework for the selection of school heads has undergone considerable change, as a result of which any political expediency may often become intensified. For this reason, the educational community displays an increasing interest in the experience of participants where recent evaluations are concerned.  This research seeks to define in a definite and clear manner the selection process by taking due account of the political context and the degree to which the latter affects such process. At the beginning of the paper a bibliographical review is    provided, while the purpose of the research and research questions are set out. Subsequently, the methodology employed is presented and research results are analyzed in detail.  Finally, comments on the results obtained are formulated and stimuli are offered for further research to be carried out where the evaluation and selection process for prospective school heads is concerned.
