Abstract

The present paper offers insights into the views of teachers working in secondary education regarding necessity of teacher assessment through research study. The paper is divided in two parts. The first part includes the theoretical background, where assessment is defined together with the different forms it can take, information is provided about the international and European trends and a historical overview of the institution in Greece is attempted. Next, the necessity of the institution is confirmed and the fields, objectives and criteria of its application as well as the bodies that realize it are presented. The second part includes the research study, where theory is linked to research and the methodology followed is described in detail. Finally, the findings are discussed and conclusions are drawn.
