Περίληψη

The article deals with the attitude of Livy to the personality of Alexander the Great. It takes into account all relevant passages in Livy's history and specifically ΙΧ.16.19 ff. It is evident from the research οn this subject that the violent attack against Alexander in this very passage has undoubtedly its origin in historical and philosophical sources. Nevertheless, one should also notice that the main motive of the historian is his strong nationalism, which through hypothetical fears of an invasion from the East and the subjugation of the Romans to an eastern monarch finds a suitable chance to develop to a violent attack.
