The State of Modern Greek Literature in North America
Abstract
The following article offers a brief overview of the Greek-American immigration experience as an introduction to Modern Greek Literature produced in the United States. The author looks at the situation from a passionate, personal perspective as he stresses the different types of immigrant, the linguistic struggle of second-generarion Greek-Americans and the role of che Orthodox Church within the community. A writer/translator himself, the author concludes with a pica for more study of Greek-language literarure produced in America or other English-language countries. The names of several key auchors and some extracts are provided.
