Éducation Spécialisée en Grèce: Évolution Historique et Perspective d’Amélioration
Abstract
This article reviews special education in Greece, examining separately each type and form of handicap. For the past fifty years, practically all cases of the “special” child have been dealt with, especially so due to the initiative of private sector. However, and for various reasons, these efforts have not been successful and seem to be insufficient when compared to the needs of the total population requiring special education. Scientific bibliography in this area is lacking, while hardly any effort has been made to include educational practice at Greek special schools in research activities. In order to improve this situation, some proposals have been made as to how to approach the problem realistically.
