Réflexions sur la Politique Extérieure de la Turquie
Abstract
This article stresses the importance of the geopolitical factor in Turkey’s foreign policy. The author observes that this factor is not the mere mechanical projection of Western interests and can not be labelled as blind pro-Americanism. Turkey has long been willing to promote a multidirectional policy open to the Communist block, prepared for reinforced links with the European community and even Arab-Islamic assistance. When Özal was in power, the economic vision of Turkey’s foreign relations dominated, and the country did not seem to have a real alternative to increasingly close cooperation with the EU.
