Abstract

AS THE TITLE suggests, this paper focuses on the myth of the tragic Ajax as it occurs and is used in the theatrical monologues of Υannis Ritsos’ “Fourth Dimension” (17 poems). The issues raised in the paper concern the nature of the convergences with and the divergences from the Sophoclean myth, in an attempt to ascertain the ways in which Ritsos explores the tragic material.
