Abstract

Distance Education is the natural evolution of an anthropocentric sector of education. As technology evolves, new opportunities of deploying it are offered to adult education through Social Media. Social Media provide a variety of abilities to users based on their different needs while supporting them in collaborative activities and content creation thereby promoting the creation of connections and learning  opportunities.

The primary concern of this work is  an exploration into the new role of Social Media in Teacher Training through the design, implementation and evaluation of a distance teacher training environment designed and implemented by the Laboratory of Advanced Learning Technologies in Lifelong and Distance Education of the Department of Primary Education of the University of Crete.
