Abstract

This study examines the relationship between creative self-efficacy and creativity of young adolescents. For the purposes of this research, creative self-efficacy and creative potential of 152 middle school students with a mean age of 13.6 years were assessed. Results showed that the students tended to display moderate to high creative self-efficacy, but low creativity. Furthermore, there was no strong and statistically significant relationship found between creative self-efficacy and creativity for this sample. The findings were consistent with previous literature according to which creative self-efficacy of an individual tends to be strongly and positively correlated to creativity only if they have sufficient previous experience in creative production. Greek students’ tendency to be overconfident as regards their creative abilities raises concerns about the factors that may influence their creative self-efficacy.
